Neuroplasticity and Motor Function Recovery after Stroke

Katlyn Williams

Katlyn is a graduate student in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Her work in the lab is focused on how to quantify therapy dose for individuals recovering after a stroke.

Katlyn graduated from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina in 2015 with a degree in Emergency Medical Care. After graduation, she worked as a Paramedic for Henderson County Emergency Medical Services in North Carolina before transitioning to personal training and coaching martial arts full-time. As a martial arts coach, she developed adult and children's competition programs, taking both teams to competitions across the Carolinas. 

Working at Baylor Institute for Rehabilitation in Dallas, TX, she gained experience working with patients with spinal cord injuries and neurological conditions. Using her experience in combat sports, she created a boxing program and trained therapists and aides on how to safely incorporate techniques into therapy sessions. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, and training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She is the External Vice President of the DPT class of 2027.
